ACICS Update:  December 21, 2016

It appears that changes are happening in warp speed regarding the recognition of ACICS and the resulting situation of the status of the over 600 universities who are accredited by ACICS. Any new and relevant information will be shared via this webpage as we learn about the changes.

As of today, the Department of Education (DOE) has evaluated the recommendation by the staff and Mr. King, Jr. has determined that the DOE will no longer recognize ACICS as an accrediting entity. ACICS has submitted a notice of appeal requesting the courts approve a temporary restraining order. The courts denied this petition.  ACICS is continuing with additional legal action.

The Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) has recommended to the CHEA Board of Directors that ACICS be granted recognition for up to three years. This recommendation will be decided by the CHEA Board of Directors in their next meeting to be held in late January, 2017.

The DOE currently does not recognize ACICS as an accreditation agency. The CHEA does recognize ACICS as an accrediting agency. ACICS is still an accrediting agency at this point in time. It will take time to sort out this confusion from the multiple players: the US courts, the incoming Presidency, and the various agencies affiliated with accreditation. We will continue to provide additional updating as they become available.
